a D-shaped blanket woven of mountain goat wool with a warp of yellow cedar bark, into which are worked symbolic designs, originally made by the Chilcat Indians and later adopted by other tribes of the west coast. See picture at Chilkat blanket.

Such blankets were made only by the Chilkats of the Alaskan coast, and although often called Haida blankets, the term is erroneous, as the Haida never practised the art of weaving wool or hair.
